“She’s got a smile that seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything was as fresh as the bright blue sky
Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that special place
And if I stare too long, I’d probably break down and cry” – Guns N’ Roses
How can it be that my almost 20-year-old daughter already possesses all the qualities I have yet to find in myself? She is the person I admire the most in this world. Her personality is a characteristic of hers that you just cannot help but notice immediately. Her zest for life is contagious, every ounce of everyday is met with excitement as she learns. She yearns for adventure, desires the journey, and simply accepts that she genuinely wants to enjoy every second of it. She is brave. Her kindness is so welcoming and endearing because her generous nature knows no bounds, especially to those she holds near and dear. Her heart is both strong and soft. She has the ability to show strength to those who need it but maintains an endearing naivety and gentleness at the same time. She is able to adapt and navigate unfamiliar or unexpected situations without it becoming an issue for her. Her absolute and somewhat uncanny ability to consistently exude situational awareness and acceptance in any given moment blows my mind.
Some people search their whole lives to find themselves. While others search all their lives to find another person to look up to or aspire to. I have been blessed enough with a daughter who has allowed me to lean on her, keep my secrets and giggle at my stupid jokes. She has held me when I cry and spending my days with her, as her mother, is helping me find myself… the best version of myself.
Every adult deserves a champion, a child who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection. This young lady is my champion because she is always trying to become the best she can possibly be. She has known failure, her own personal failure. She has fallen into despair, but the way in which she stood up and brushed herself off, ready for the next challenge is not only commendable but so brave.
My darling daughter is Morgan. She is beautiful inside and out. Yes, I am her mom so you would expect me to be biased, but she is genuinely gorgeous to look at! She will literally take your breath away. She can ride a horse like she was born on one, she writes stories as if she pours her heart onto the page and she loves with her entire being. When I count my blessings, I count her twice.
